For decades, Birchwood has built high-quality, lasting furniture to keep your home stylish and comfortable. We hold ourselves to incredibly high standards, using top quality materials, including ethically sourced Canadian wood and Canadian-made industry-leading foam. Every piece of Birchwood Furniture is built on a solid legacy of dedication and excellence. Each of our specialised craftsmen shares our passion for creating the perfect piece. At Birchwood, we love building custom furniture designed to suit and enhance your home.
Each frame is made from engineered hardwood which is specifically made for the furniture industry. The grain in the middle three layers of this wood runs in the same direction to prevent splintering during assembly of the frame using staples or screws. Manufactured in Golden, British Columbia, our wood is certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, or SFI. Once we have cut the frame out with our state-of-the-art technology, we assemble the pieces. We ensure solid, lasting construction with a combination of staples, screws, glue, and corner blocks. Our frames are built to withstand years and years of loving use.
We use only the highest quality of foam to help each Birchwood piece keep its soft and comfortable shape. In addition to being Calgary-made, the high-resilience foam we use is considered to be one of the best types of foam in the industry.
Each piece of Birchwood Furniture is fortified to prevent sagging. We only use no-sag brand springs. We also add a double set of springs around the arms at either end of a sofa, preventing weakening or sinking in the corners. The addition of the guidewires keeps the seating comfortable and uniform for a lifetime, guaranteed.
As an added level of accountability, we use blue glue during construction. Thanks to its colour, our staff can see the glue at each joint, ensuring we never miss a step. Our glue also remains pliable, even when it is dry. When we are using a patterned fabric, pattern placement matters. That is why we use Gerber technology to accurately plot and cut fabrics with patterns and prints. This extraordinary precision allows us to match stripes, brocades, and other intricate patterns as accurately as possible. As for the sewing, no machine could ever match the care and attention to detail demonstrated by our sewing department.
